Today I’m reviewing the Sheringham Distillery Seaside Gin. I bought this gin a little while back when I also got the Sheringham Distillery Kazuki Gin. According to the critics, this is the more famous/well regarded of the two. The gin has won a number of awards over the years and is considered to be one of the best Canadian gins! Unfortunately, it is a bit hard to find outside of BC or Alberta, but can try your local liquor store! As I mentioned in my previous post, Sheringham Distillery is one of my favourite Canadian distilleries located on Vancouver Island.
Some of the awards the gin has won:
World Gin Awards: World’s Best Contemporary Gin (2019)
CASC Gold Medal (2018)
BC Food and Beverage Awards: Product of the Year Gold Medal (2020)
Clearly a lot of recognition. The Sheringham Distillery Seaside Gin is made with white wheat, malted barley, natural botanicals (juniper, rose, citrus, etc.), and local winged kelp. The gin is complex – a bit spicy and floral – maybe a bit less juniper than your typical gin. Additionally, there are some slight briny/savoury qualities as well probably from the kelp – though very mild. Works well both straight up but also in any gin-forward cocktails (usually I just do a gin and soda). Go and try this!
